Library

Welcome to Hoxton Park High School Library, the most popular learning space in the school! Any day of the week, any period of time, the library is the hub of teaching and learning. The library supports the Vision and Mission of the school and contributes to the improvement of student learning outcomes by providing services and programs that support teaching and learning practices and the Australian curriculum. The teacher-librarian and the library’s services promote learning by collaborating with staff to engender ICT and information literacy in context with classroom practices.The library is equipped with physical and digital resources, 21st century learning spaces and technological needs for the school community.

Opening times

  • 8.30am to print, borrow and return resources

  • Up to 3.30pm to print, borrow and return resources

  • Break 1 and 2, except Friday Break 1.

  • Monday 3.30pm - 4.30pm for Homework club, staffed by teachers.

Printer and Photocopier

 

Students are provided with an official School photo ID card that is used to borrow and use the printer facilities. Students may load their card with funds at the Fees office. The cost to print and copy is 40 cents, per page for colour copies and 10 cents, per page, for black and white copies.

 

What your library offers

Through teaching and learning, the library embeds the essential skills of information and ICT literacy within the curriculum throughout the school while promoting the NSW Information Skills Process model. The Teacher-librarian is only too willing to assist students by:

  • choosing a topic to research
  • defining, locating, selecting, presenting and evaluating information
  • navigating the Internet effectively
  • researching and notetaking
  • creating bibliographies and copyright
  • accessing digital and physical resources
  • digital citizenship and safety
  • completing the annual Premier's Reading Challenge
  • structuring written responses
  • and, finding a good book to read!

Senior study area

Seniors have a dedicated room with Desktops where they can engage in silent sustained study during their study periods. At the beginning of Year 12, students sign a code of conduct in which allows them to come to the library and with minimal supervision by the teacher librarian can complete their work. The teacher librarian is always available for guidance.
