Wellbeing Programs
At Hoxton Park High School, we are committed to ensuring that every student is known, valued, and cared for. We recognize that student well-being is crucial for both educational and social development, and we strive to optimize these through safe and respectful learning environments.
We offer a diverse array of leadership, well-being, and enrichment opportunities designed to inspire our students to thrive. Our goal is to foster an environment where students can flourish, ensuring they enjoy a fulfilling and healthy adolescence.
Peer Support - The Peer Support Program is designed to empower students by equipping them with practical skills and strategies for fostering positive relationships with their peers. This initiative aims to achieve several key outcomes, including enhanced social connectedness, a reduction in bullying behaviours, improved resilience, and an increased sense of potential among participants.
The program accomplishes these objectives through a structured series of sessions led by trained peer support facilitators. These sessions focus on cultivating and sustaining positive relationships, strengthening self-awareness, and fostering a sense of responsibility both towards oneself and others. By participating in these sessions, students develop critical interpersonal skills and a deeper understanding of their role within the school community, ultimately contributing to a more supportive and inclusive environment.
Breakfast Club - The Breakfast Club is designed to support students in starting the school day positively while offering the Wellbeing Team an opportunity to engage with them. This program provides a nutritious meal prepared by the Wellbeing Team, enabling students to mentally prepare for the day's academic demands.
In addition to providing a healthy breakfast, the club serves as a platform for students to address any concerns or issues they may have, facilitating open communication and support. It also fosters positive interactions between students and teachers, promoting a sense of community and enhancing the overall school experience. This occurs every Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
Student Leadership Council (SLC) - The Student Leadership Council (SLC) is composed of Senior Prefects and Junior members who serve as representatives for the student body at HPHS. The SLC plays a pivotal role in school functions, fundraising events, and the promotion of school spirit. Additionally, it works to build partnerships between the high school and local primary schools.
Through its activities, the SLC aims to cultivate essential skills in teamwork, public speaking, and leadership, thereby contributing to the development of future leaders. This program is designed for students who are keen to enhance their confidence and leadership abilities, offering them a platform to grow and excel in these areas.
Top Blokes - The Top Blokes program is a mentoring initiative specifically designed for male students, aimed at fostering critical thinking and building self-efficacy. This program creates an environment that supports the development of skills necessary for leading healthy and safe lives.
The program operates on principles of strength-based approaches, harm minimization, and peer mentoring. These methods are strategically employed to effectively engage male students, promoting their personal growth and enhancing their capacity to navigate life challenges constructively.
Pacific Waves - The Pacific Waves program is dedicated to equipping young people with essential coping skills to navigate life's challenges while simultaneously empowering them to contribute to their communities and pursue further educational and professional opportunities.
Designed specifically for Pacific youth, the program emphasizes personal growth by encouraging participants to explore their individual qualities, cultural heritage, and familial values. This approach aims to enhance self-awareness, build confidence, and foster positive connections with peers, family members, and educators.
Led by highly trained Polynesian facilitators, the Pacific Waves program utilizes a diverse range of activities—including athletics, art, cuisine, performance, and capacity development workshops—to promote self-discovery and celebrate cultural heritage. Participants engage with their local environment, reinforcing their understanding of both them and their community.
The program focuses on developing key areas for students, including:
- Personal and social capability
- Cultural awareness
- Self-awareness
- Positive relationships
