Peer Support
Peer Support is a program designed to assist Year 7 students in settling into High School. Year 11 students are trained as peer leaders to run sessions to assist Year 7 in their transition from primary to high school as this transition can be a traumatic experience for some students.
Throughout the first term, peer support runs once a week where peer leaders are assigned to particular classes and working in smaller groups, engage year 7 students in a variety of activities such as:
· Getting to know each other
· Getting to know the school
· Being organised
· Time management
· Optimism
· Empathy
· Positive self talk
· Perseverance
· Resilience
· Coping
· Relationship building
· Assertiveness
· Decision making
For year 11 students to be trained as peer leaders, they are required to do a two day training course in Term 4 of Year 10. Students are usually nominated by their year advisor and are nominated on the prospect of further developing their leadership skills.
