Vocational Education

Vocational Education at Hoxton Park High School

Some students prefer the action of hands-on learning. What that means is they respond well to exercises where they can see the results of their work rather than just book-work. These students tend to thrive when they are out of the traditional classroom setting. Perhaps that is you!

Our VET students develop essential technology and employability skills to ensure they secure a satisfying and meaningful place in our rapidly changing society.

VET courses such as Business Services, Hospitality, Information Technology, Metal & Engineering and Retail Services provide outstanding opportunities for all.

Our modern specialised facilities include:

  • New industry standard stainless steel kitchen
  • Well equipped computer rooms
  • Refurbishment of Metal & Engineering

Workplacement is a compulsory component of all VET courses and develops links with industry to provide opportunities to develop skills in a real industry setting.

So why would you want vocational training while you are still at school? Because:

  • VET qualifications look great on your CV – you will pick up relevant skills: time management, communication, computer skills etc
  • You'll get out of the classroom and visit real work environments
  • It will contribute to further VET qualifications at TAFE
  • The qualifications that you get through vocational training at  school are nationally recognised
  • You can get a taste of an industry and decide if it's a taste you like; this is handy if you are going to sign up for an apprenticeship
  • Even if you are bound for university and university only, you're going to need a job while you study at university and VET at school will help you a lot! You might be able to count your VET result in your ATAR as well.

Course Costs –

You will have to pay for:

  • Uniform and personal protective equipment (PPE)

  • Cost of material used in your training

  • OH&S induction certificate as part of the construction course

Whatever you want to do, getting some vocational training while you're still at school is going to be a major bonus.
