High potential and gifted education

At Hoxton Park High School, we believe every student has high potential, whether in creativity, critical thinking, leadership and sport. We recognise and nurture these strengths from the start, providing engaging opportunities to help all students grow, thrive, and reach their full potential.

What is high potential and gifted education?

At our school, High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE) is designed for students who aim to excel in different areas, offering them the challenges and support needed to fully develop their abilities.

We do this through:

Our high potential and gifted education opportunities

Our students engage with HPGE education in the classroom, in our school, and across NSW.

In our classroom
Self-Select is our High Potential and Gifted Education program for students in Years 7–10 who choose to extend themselves alongside motivated peers. The program supports growth across physical, social-emotional, creative, and intellectual areas, with Year 7 students eligible for scholarships to further develop their individual strengths. Students also have opportunities to engage in partnership programs to further strengthen their possibilities post-high school. Each year students are given the opportunity to apply for the program.
Across our school

Our school offers extensive extra-curricular programs across sport, academic, career, creative, and leadership areas, giving students the chance to explore their interests, develop new skills, and build meaningful connections. These programs help students grow personally and socially while preparing them for future opportunities.

Across NSW

  • Participation in music ensembles (e.g. State Wind Orchestra, State Choirs) hones our students’ musical skills, discipline and ensemble awareness.
  • The Premier’s Sporting Challenge (PSC) promotes whole-school participation in physical activity with leadership pathways and professional learning.
  • Participation in state-wide dance ensembles develops our high potential and gifted dance students’ technical skills, performance presence and physical expressiveness.
